The fishtail braid races hairdo

fishtail braid
Even though Melbourne Cup Day is done and dusted, it doesn’t mean that the Spring Racing Season is over! So, it’s not too late to mix up your hairdo for your next race day.
It’s time to up your hair game, get creative and keep your hair on-trend this Spring, so why not mix it up with a fishtail braid up-do? This hairdo will make sure you’re prepared for everything and anything – just as you need to be for a day at the races!

A fishtail braid looks great and stays better than a ponytail – perfect! Long lasting while you’re out and about in the sunshine all day long. This style will not only suit any outfit, but you’ll be sure to steal compliments on the day and some wonderful photo comments on your insta the next day!

So, we’ve put together this step-by-step guide to show you the best way to do pull off this look. Don’t be scared by all the twists and turns, it’s actually easier than it looks. Once you’ve mastered this style, you’ll also be braiding your hair for work, the gym and all other occasions because it’s super versatile.

Step 1
Wash your hair using the Natural World Argan Oil Pack, inclusive of Shampoo, Conditioner, lightweight Treatment Oil and a bonus Freestyle Natural Collection large round brush. This will ensure your hair is smooth, healthy and ready to be styled. Make sure to completely dry your hair before completing the following steps, especially if you are using heat to straight or add a wave to your hair before styling.

Step 2
Part your hair to your preferable side. The Freestyle Detangle & Groom Comb is perfect for getting that perfect, a straight part, the way you want it. Manufactured using a proprietary blend of polymers to reduce friction, this comb provides even distribution and reduces damage and ensures a smooth finish.

Step 3
Using your comb, pick up a section of hair on your chosen preferred side of the part, and divide it into two sections. Then, take a small piece from the back of one section and cross it over the top, adding it into the front section of the opposite side.

Step 4
Cross a small piece from the front section over the top and add it into the back section, then cross over a small section from the back section and pick up a section of hair crossing it over as well. Repeat with the front section.

Step 5
Continue repeating step 4 until the braid reaches the top of the left ear, and then continue braiding all the way down in a regular style fishtail.

Step 6
Use the pointy end of the Freestyle Separate & Tease Comb to gently loosen the sides of the braid and tie off the end with a Gliders Snag Free Hair Elastic in Clear.

Step 7
With the rest of the hair, create a regular fishtail braid, taking sections from each side, crossing them over to the other section until all the hair is braided.

Step 8
Gently loosen the sides of the braid (this time it may be easier to just use your hands) to create a fuller braid then tie off the end with another Gliders Snag Free Hair Elastic.

Step 9
Twist the back braid into a bun and pin it in place using Freestyle Professional Bobby Pins. These pins will ensure superior hold for the entire day with no tangles or pulling, with a cushioned tip for comfortable grip.

 Step 10
Create little twists on the right side of the head to tighten the hair and create a bit more detail. It’s also a good idea to wrap the first fishtail braid over the top of the bun and around the bun in a clock-wise direction, pinning it in place.

Step 11
To hide the Freestyle Professional Bobby Pins in the bun, simply go back and gently make the top fishtail braid fuller.

Step 12
Add your favourite accessory to the top of the hairstyle and you’re race-ready!

Now it’s your turn to try this look for yourself – you’ll be surprised how quick and easy it is.

Happy Race Day!
