Winter is on its way and we are all looking for hairstyles that will give us an edge amongst our layers of clothing. Braiding is a HOT trend for Autumn Winter 2016 and although some braided styles can look intimidating and time-consuming, there are actually loads of super easy styles that you can accomplish yourself at home! One killer braiding technique is the Dutch Braid and here we have a guide on how to use that technique to create a chic half-up half-down style – the Mohawk Braid Top Knot!

Step 1 – Preparation
Use your Freestyle Wet Dry Detangler Brush to brush out your hair and get rid of any knots. The ultra flexible bristles are great for detangling your hair when it is wet or dry! Ensure that your hair is fully dry before beginning to style.

Step 2 – Sectioning
To create the Mohawk style use the pointed end of your Freestyle Separate & Tease Comb, creating a section about 3 and ½ inches wide from your forehead to the back of your crown. Secure this section on top of your head and out of the way using a Freestyle Professional Control Clip.

Gather the rest of your hair below and secure it with a Gliders Snag Free Hair Elastic to keep it out of the way. You can now let down your top section ready for braiding!

Step 3 – Braiding
Begin creating a Dutch Braid by grabbing a small section of hair near your hairline. Divide the section into 3 equal pieces and cross the right strand underneath the middle strand, then do the same with the left strand crossing it underneath the middle. Now again cross the right strand underneath the middle, this time picking up a new section of hair and adding it in so that both are crossed underneath the middle strand. Repeat this action crossing the left strand under the middle and picking up a new section of hair and adding it in so that both are crossed underneath the middle strand.

Continue picking up and crossing under the middles alternatively left and right. Be sure to pick up all of the hair that you sectioned off in the beginning to create the Mohawk. Once all of your hair from the top section is braided in, secure the braid at your crown with a clear Gliders Snag Free Elastic.

Step 4 – Top Knot
Using the ponytail created by the end of the braid, you can now create a messy bun! Grab the end of the braid and using another clear Gliders Snag Free Elastic wrap the elastic over the hair, then twist the elastic and the hair at the same time and fold the elastic over the bun.

Use Gliders Bobby Pins to ensure the bun is secure to your crown and tuck away any ends that are sticking out.

Step 5Finishing touches
You can now let out the bottom section of your hair and style as you wish! This style looks best with soft curls.

And there you have it. The perfect chic braid to keep you on trend this season with only a few simple steps and you’ll be ready to take on the world in a matter of minutes!
